Ever since being at college I’ve really grown to appreciate early mornings. In high school I was on the drill team and we had early morning practices so I’ve always been awake early in the day but the change in college was that the early mornings became a time for more regular day to day tasks.
I have found that I really am the most productive between the hours of 6 AM and 1 PM ish. Basically after lunch I start to lose steam. So, I’ve made it part of my routine to wake up early and get a few things done every morning whether that be looking at new job postings in my ongoing hunt for employment after graduation or drafting a blog post or brainstorming script ideas. If I’m able to get at least one productive thing done at the start of my day it makes me feel so much better as I continue going about the rest of my daily motions.
Mornings are also when I feel most motivated to work out. Two to three times a week I block out time to either go to a gym or do at home exercises to keep myself active and moving. I love when I start my day with a work out because it energizes me to keep going and continue the momentum of a day of productivity.
Another thing I like to include in my mornings is sitting with a cup of tea and listening to a podcast or a few chapters of an audio book. This really helps me turn on and start the gears turning in my brain for the rest of the day. By tuning into a narrative story or a podcast conversation I feel like I am allowing myself to slowly awaken the part of my mind that listens and digests information I might be told by other people throughout the day.
Seeing the sky go from completely dark and moving through the stages of dawn to full sunrise is something I have come to really enjoy as well. There is something nice about being able to synchronize my own internal clock with the outdoors so that when the sun is fully out in the sky I am also awake and alert enough to go out and tackle any errands or other to-dos I might have on my plate for that day.
Mornings are amazing!
