Texas Farmers' Market

The place to be on Sunday in Austin is the Texas Farmers’ Market at Mueller. From 10AM - 2PM local vendors and businesses gather at the old airport grounds to sell their unique and amazing products. You can find all types of things like fresh bread, tacos, juices, produce, hand crafted goods and so much more.

I’ve visited this market a couple of times and have picked up some pretty awesome things. Homemade vanilla extract, gluten/dairy free baked goods and sunflower seed hummus (dill and garlic flavor) are some of my go-to grabs whenever I’m there. This past weekend my parents and I went to see what the market is like in the winter since I had previously only

gone in the summertime. While walking around we found two booths, one that sold beef and turkey jerky and another that sold plant based jerky made out of jackfruit. We bought one bag of each, beef jerky for my dad, turkey jerky for my mom, and the jackfruit jerky for both my mom and I to try (my dad is not super interested in plant based meat alternatives). Later in the day we did a taste test and I love the jackfruit jerky! It had a really great texture and the seasoning lent it a really nice peppery and smokey flavor. We also picked up some of the hummus from Floreli I mentioned earlier, and my dad got a loaf of fresh baked bread which was a rye, white and wheat sourdough mix (he and my mom gave it a 10/10).

After walking through the market, we decided to also explore the surrounding area which has some really nice eateries and shops as well as a growing number of apartment complexes. It’s like a mini downtown area and it’s super cute and quirky. I love the vibe and ambiance of the area, it is a perfect place to spend your Sunday morning. Whether you just want to do a quick stop by the farmers’ market or make a bit more of an outing of it by walking over to the shops and grabbing brunch or a coffee, definitely check it out!
