We Bare Bears | Review

We Bare Bears created by Daniel Chong

Synopsis: Three bear siblings, Grizzly, Panda, and Ice Bear, and their awkward attempts at integrating with the human world in the San Francisco Bay Area.

An animated series that is appropriate for a wide range of ages is not easy to come by but We Bare Bears does just that and does it so well. I thought this show had a brilliantly calm and subtle humor as opposed to the over-the-top, hyperactive humor seen in a lot of other animated comedy series.

The characters balance each other out so well. Grizzly has an extroverted personality and always seems to see the brighter side of every situation. Panda is the awkward, more softhearted personality. And Ice Bear brings a stoic quality and dry humor to the mix. But none of the three main bears are flat characters in the least bit. They are relatable and show growth and character development throughout the series. Even the secondary characters are so unique and bring out the best in the adventures the bears have.

My absolute favorite thing about this show was that the humor wasn’t boring, vulgar or overly repetitive. There is also an underlying theme of found family not only between the bears themselves, but also when considering how much they care for the recurring side characters they interact and spend time with in multiple episodes. The bears are always willing to help others and often put others' needs in front of their own. The animation style is simple and doesn’t distract from the stories being told with crazy graphics and colors which I really enjoy.

Shows that tick so many boxes of what I look for and love are hard to find. I definitely think this is a hidden gem for animation and pretty underrated since I had never heard of it before coming across it on a streaming service. I highly, highly recommend this if you want a wholesome, heartwarming, funny, and easy to watch show to add to your watchlist.
