Schitt's Creek | Review

Schitt's Creek created by Dan Levy and Eugene Levy

Synopsis: When rich video-store magnate Johnny Rose and his family suddenly find themselves broke, they are forced to leave their pampered lives to regroup in Schitt's Creek.

This show is absolutely spectacular. It has some of the best character development I have ever seen in a 30 minute comedy show format. Getting to know the characters and watch them as they adapt to their new lives and circumstances across the six seasons was such a pleasure. The writing and comedic timing the creative team behind the scripts laid out and the actors executed made this show endlessly enjoyable. There are very few shows that actually make me laugh out loud and some of the reactions and responses of the various characters to the events happening around them did just that.

Schitt’s Creek also takes on some serious and relevant topics from our society without being too heavy handed or preachy. They were able to find a great balance between those more serious topics and the levity of the comedic lines. Making the choice to show a town that is accepting of everyone and willing to learn about and understand where each other come from rather than be judgmental and exclude those who don’t live the exact same way as the rest, was an amazing and refreshing path to take.

The hilarious and heartwarming stories were all wrapped up so nicely in the series finale. There really aren’t enough words to convey how much I love this show. The fact that the creative minds behind this show made the decision to end the show after the sixth season instead of dragging out the story until the network cancels it makes it such a wonderful viewing experience. You know that they put thought and care in wrapping up the show and the journeys of the characters the way they felt would best round out the overall narrative of the series. Definitely watch it if you haven’t and re-watch it if you have. I am already on my fourth re-watch of the series and enjoy it just as much each time. Give this show all the love and attention it deserves.
