I am without a doubt a lover of all things superhero. I have enjoyed every single Marvel movie as well as some of the DC comic adaptations. Superhero films are just so much fun and still have the ability to share deeper messages if you choose to look past the surface of crazy fight scenes and other worldly super powers. Here are just a handful of my favorites:
Spiderman (2017)
This adaptation of the Spiderman series has such a great balance between witty teen comedy and action packed superhero movie. I love everything about this version of Spiderman’s story from the awesome action sequences to the awkward and incredibly relatable interaction between Peter and his classmates.
Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse (2018)
The animation style of this film makes it so unique. It is like watching a comic book come to life. The inner thoughts of Miles shown with speech bubbles is such a fun addition to the film. The characters are so dynamic and watching all of them evolve in their own personal narratives as well as working as a team to achieve a larger goal was such a fun experience.
Big Hero 6 (2014)
The animation and world building done in this film aided in the immersiveness of the narrative, I honestly wish San Fransokyo was a real place now. The character development across the board is some of the greatest I’ve seen and the emotion and heart that drives the narrative is truly magnificent. It highlights the idea that using your intelligence to gain the upper hand is sometimes more effective than violence and destruction. This is one of my all time favorites for sure.
Logan (2017)
I think this movie really showcases how to properly age up and elevate a superhero to the next level. There are moving character arcs, a somber, more grounded tone as well as a much more brutal and grisly depiction of the violence that accompanies this character and series. This is a truly gripping film with amazing performances across the board.
The Incredibles (2004)
The characters, story and animation are all so well done. It is fast moving and provides action, comedy and impressive character development that hold your attention the entire time. It is also a film that can be enjoyed by all ages, which is a pretty difficult thing to do.
Shazam! (2019)
This film delivered a truly fun and entertaining superhero origin story backed by a message filled with heart and the importance of found family. I loved the way comedy was interwoven throughout the story and the performances by the actors were top notch.
