Movie Picks: Comedy

Comedy is such a hard genre to nail because everyone finds different things funny to varying degrees. Whenever I watch a film that is placed into the comedy genre I try to keep an open mind to really see and appreciate the type of comedic tone the film creators were trying to touch on. Here are some films that I really enjoyed from the comedy genre:

The Internship (2013)

Watching the interactions between the different personalities of the young interns with Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn’s characters is pretty entertaining. The story inspires creativity, perseverance and dedication and I think the comedic moments are delivered with amazingly bold confidence.

Due Date (2010)

This is a pretty straight forward buddy comedy/road trip film. I think the comedic delivery is pretty spot on and there is still some emotional drive behind the characters that adds some intrigue to their adventure. It has a pretty quirky vibe and I really enjoyed it.

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)

I definitely feel like this film is more of a drama forward comedy. There were some amazing moments of dry humor and the performances given by the actors held some comedic influence. The structure and pacing of this film is incredibly effective and I have watched this film multiple times without ever getting tired of it.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

This is such a classic with so many quotable moments. My dad showed me and my sister this movie growing up and there are some truly comedically gold skits and characters showcased throughout the entirety of the film.

Eighth Grade (2018)

This is a truly masterful and genuine depiction of going through the terrifying yet exciting point in your life when you are transitioning from middle to high school. It is sensitive, realistic, relatable, awkward, and provides the perfect amount of comedy to make watching the main characters journey and possibly finding something you, as the viewer, can relate to even more enjoyable. A must watch film without a doubt.
