YouTube is a great place to find some really unique content made by people who have so much dedication and passion for the videos they are producing. These are some of my favorite go-to channels to follow on the platform:
Good Mythical Morning
Every weekday at 5AM tune into Good Mythical Morning as your "wake up and get going" morning entertainment. Rhett and Link are long time friends who cultivated this hilarious and fun morning talk show that is oftentimes ridiculous but always enjoyable to watch. Since I am an early riser, having new GMM episodes to look forward to is pretty amazing. They make such unique content, sometimes I wish I could be a fly on the wall during their idea meetings so I could see what crazy conversations they have that end up with them producing the concepts for the topics and games they include in their videos. They have crazy food videos where they eat weird things or do blindfolded taste tests, fun guessing/trivia games and so much more. Sometimes they go off on tangents and chat about random topics that naturally come up during the conversations they have while filming and those moments really make you feel like you are spending time and having genuine conversations with friends. Regardless of what the main objective of the video is, Rhett and Link have such a good relationship and such likable personalities that their videos never fail to put a smile on my face and keep me coming back every morning.
Mythical Kitchen
Mythical Kitchen is 100% pure entertainment, enjoyment, and fun. The content on this channel features the small team of chefs that make the crazy concoctions that Rhett and Link taste in some of the Good Mythical Morning episodes. The videos on Mythical Kitchen show them making some of the successful recipes from those episodes, making fancy versions of fast food menu items, and making hybrid versions of two snack foods in a series called "Snack Smash". The chefs, Josh, Nicole and Trevor, are so likable and hilariously awkward together. Each of them brings something unique and engaging to the content which just adds to the overall happiness I get from watching this channel. Even though some of the recipes seem crazy and impossible, they always are able to pull all the elements together and make something that is actually really inventive and seems like it could taste good/interesting. I love the experimental aspect of it, it's mot everyday someone tries to make a PB&J pizza or Oreo biscuits and gravy. It's seriously awesome.
Bon Appetit
Bon Appetit is a YouTube channel that is an extension of the food and wine magazine of the same name from the Conde Nast publication company. The videos on the channel show their extremely relatable and authentic recipe developers and editors go through step by step, cooking some of the recipes that are featured in the magazine. They also have other types of video series. Some examples are Claire Saffitz creating gourmet versions of various snack foods, Chris Morocco reverse engineering recipes with only being able to touch, taste and smell the dish, Brad Leone experimenting with different fermentation projects, and many more. I love Bon Appetit's videos because they make cooking seem like less of a scary task and I have actually learned a lot from watching them. Each person who is featured on the channel is so talented and knowledgeable about cooking and the videos are extremely well produced as well. There is an overall vibe to the videos that makes it seem like the kitchen version of The Office. Everyone involved in making these videos has such fun interactions and they all seem to get along with one another which adds to how fun it is to watch. This is a channel I highly, highly recommend.
Super Carlin Brothers
Super Carlin Brothers is a YouTube channel that features brothers J and Ben Carlin who love all things Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Harry Potter. They make videos that cover theories regarding movies that fall within the categories mentioned before. Whether it is a theory they have come up with themselves or a fan theory they have already seen circulating in the media, they dive deep and research all the avenues that could provide any sort of insight on whether or not these theories could be possible. Since I share a love for all the types of films they cover, I was drawn to being able to learn more about the hidden messages that filmmakers sneak into these films as well as having fun with theorizing where these films are going to go in the future as more films are made and released. They ask questions like what Luna Lovegood’s patronus is or explore the origin stories of Disney characters and theorizing how new Pixar movies fit into the larger Pixar theory. They are not afraid to take some crazy leaps when analyzing and theorizing about these movies and it is so fun to entertain those kinds of thoughts as they make arguments for and against different theories. They also do movie reviews and play trivia games about these franchises. You can tell that both J and Ben love what they do and the videos they create, they are definitely one of my favorite pop culture YouTube channels.
The Endless Adventure
I have tried watching a good handful of travel vloggers because I love the fact that I am able to see more of the world even though I don’t have the means or opportunity to explore it myself at the moment. The thing that makes The Endless Adventure stand out as a couple who documents their travels around the world in my opinion is their overall optimistic and open-minded view point of the different people and cultures they interact with. Even when their travel days don't go quite to plan, they find the positive side of the situation. They also are really down to earth and keep it real. By that I mean that it doesn’t feel like they are editing out any of the hiccups or less exciting parts of their travels. Watching them experience and explore the different countries, cities and towns, both big and small, of the world is such an enjoyable and honestly educational experience. They really take their time to immerse themselves in the local cultures of the places they visit to show their viewers the more unique aspects of each location they stop in as well as mentioning the spots to see if their viewers are looking to take more of a tourist approach to traveling the world. They have been traveling the world and making videos for YouTube for about 5 years now and their content is very high quality and well thought out! I love how dedicated and passionate they are about sharing the things they learn through their travels with others who are curious about different places, lifestyles, and cultures.
Team StarKid
StarKid is a musical theater company started at the University of Michigan in 2009. At the beginning, they primarily made parody musicals such as A Very Potter Musical, Holy Musical Batman, and Twisted (Aladdin from Jafar’s point of view). They uploaded their first Harry Potter musical to YouTube just to have it to show to their family and other friends but it got passed around and became a pretty big deal for Harry Potter fans in general. They kept posting the musicals they produced on YouTube and their fan base continued to grow. Now, about ten years later, they not only continue to create parody musicals but they also have made a handful of fully original productions. The music they compose as well as the creative production design and writing that they come up with to make their musicals come to life is extremely impressive. One of their most recent musical that can be found on YouTube is The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, and I absolutely love it. I’m a huge fan of musicals in general and being able to see StarKid’s creative and fresh takes on what makes musicals enjoyable and amazing is such a wonderful thing. Having access to their musicals via YouTube is honestly so amazing because that is not very typical for performance companies to do. I can’t imagine what life would be like if I hadn’t found A Very Potter Musical on YouTube years ago and am so glad they are still making new shows and sharing with the world their hilarious and well produced musicals.
